Preparing to Navigate Little Bavaria
Frankenmuth has intentionally designed its Main Street with wide, well-maintained sidewalks easily accessible to parking. While historic areas feature charming brick and cobblestone, which may be uneven, there are curb cuts at all major crossings. Tactile paving at key intersections and audible traffic signals are also in effect to assist those with mobility aids or visual impairments safely navigate the beautiful downtown. In the winter, some areas have heated sidewalks and areas that don't have businesses who consistently clear off snow and ice for guests. There are also many rest points with benches and places for wheelchairs for those who need to take a break along the way.
Accessible parking exceeds industry standards and additional spots are added during peak festival times to help accommodate as many guests as possible. When parking is limited, there is a drop off area at the Visitor Center, in the center of town, that is also used for Motorcoach visitors. New high-contrast, large-print signage is located throughout town to help guide the way. The Visitor Center and many businesses offer accessible restrooms. Some businesses also offer special sensory friendly hours, quiet spaces, information or signage in braille, and some may offer ALS services, upon request.
