Frankenmuth is Proud of its German Heritage

There are many reasons Frankenmuth, a German town in Michigan, is known as “Michigan’s Little Bavaria” and the German food is just one of them. The charming Bavarian architecture and many German festivals enhance the complete cultural experience that includes a number of authentic German dishes you can savor at restaurants throughout town. Take a trip to Germany with buttered spåtzle or traditional sauerbraten, no plane ticket required.

We also are home to the World Expo of Beer, the Frankenmuth Oktoberfest, and other uniquely German experiences. Take in the sights, smells, sounds, culture, and festivals of Germany without leaving Michigan. Frankenmuth is Michigan’s German Town.

Frankenmuth gets its name from its German roots. Did you know “Franken” is a shoutout to Province of Franconia in the Kingdom of Bavaria and “Mut” is the German word for “courage”. Our downtown features architecture inspired by Germany, so, too, does the River Place Shops, and popular restaurants. According to Wikipedia, “Most buildings in the commercial district, as well as many homes, feature stylistic interpretations of the timber-framed buildings found in the Franconia region of Germany.”

What do you say, “Kommen Sie und genießen” or “come and enjoy” Frankenmuth, the German town in Michigan.
