Kids Activities at Bavarian Fest 2018

Bavarian Fest is full of family fun this year as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the festival! We have put together an entire list of activities that you and your kids are sure to enjoy.

Friday Night Street Party

To celebrate the big milestone, Frankenmuth is shutting down traffic and putting the party right on the street! Main Street will be closed to traffic and lined with fun from Covered Bridge Lane to Cass Street on Friday, June 8th from 5-10pm. There will be food vendors with popcorn, ice cream, chicken, bbq pork, hot dogs and brats.

With over 5 inflatable attractions, slides, a rock wall and a 300ft zip line ($5 to ride and all donations go toward next year’s fireworks), your kid (or kid at heart) will be sure to have a blast! The Kinder Platz children’s area next to the Harvest Coffeehouse will also have fun yard games and exciting things to do for every age. Be sure to check out the Maibaum (Maypole) Dancers raising the maypole at 6pm and then stay to watch while they perform the traditional German Maibaum dance.

At 10pm when the street opens back up to traffic, there will be a beautiful fireworks show, and the party will continue in the Main Tent behind Zehnder’s Restaurant as well as the Rock Tent behind Rau’s Country Store.

Start off the day with the Kindertag (Children’s) Parade beginning at 10am in front of the River Place Shops and ending right behind Zak and Mac’s Chocolate Haus near the Kinder Platz children’s area.  This parade features all of the local kiddos that want to show off their German pride and Bavarian Fest spirit! The Kinder Platz will then be open with all sorts of STEM activities, stage shows with live animals and princesses, inflatables and even an area for toddlers to play and explore. Meet and greet the Bavarian Princess and her court at 1pm in the Kinder Platz, too!

Right after the parade, head down to the Cass River behind the Lager Mill to watch the Morning Rotary Duck Race at 11am. Then you can watch the Maibaum Dancers again at noon, 2:30pm, 4pm, 5:30pm, and 7pm. And if you’re still in need for some more fun, Relay for Life has a carnival behind the River Place Shops from 11am-10pm.

Start Sunday off with the Bavarian Festival Parade that begins at 1pm. Your kids will love the floats, fire trucks, mascots and more that they will get to see! The Maibaum dancers will do their final performances at 2:30pm and 4pm. There will be no Kinder Platz children’s area on Sunday.
