On Saturday, May 23rd at 9AM, we’re opening for our 16th year! We are so excited to host you and busy preparing the best 2020 Farmers Market! We wanted to take a moment to tell you what to expect for Market this year under the new realities of a COVID-19 world.
Things will be a little different, but we assure you that we are taking every measure possible to provide safe, essential food services for our communities. Farmers Markets like FFM help to bolster and protect the local food supply and in a time like this, we all need and want safer access to fresh, local food!
For the first Market, due to the Stay-at-Home executive orders remaining in effect through May 30th, we will initially only be hosting vendors that participate in the sales of “life-sustaining” products and services. The executive orders have led FFM to allow the vending of foods, plants, landscape supplies, pet foods, health and safety equipment, and hygiene products.
The season will open with 18 vendors including Miller Family Orchard, Carigan Family Farm, and Island Farms Inc. Local favorites like ButterCrust Bakery and Kernel Benny's Popcorn will also be in attendance. For the May 23rd market, noticeably not in attendance, will be FFM’s artisan vendors. It will be disappointing not to have our entire vendor family with us on opening day but we look forward to the lifting of retail restrictions very soon and getting back to business as usual. It’s important to us that we provide a well-rounded market, and our artisans are a big part of that. We expect executive orders allowing for safer retailing of non-essential products to be announced soon, in the meantime you will find a “Connections” board on the Market grounds with advertisements on how to reach your favorite Artisan vendors.
For the 2020 market, guests are being asked to enter at the West end of the grounds. We do not expect to have to control admittance to the Market grounds, but will be asking that guests practice strong social distancing and take an active role in protective measures for the safety and comfort of our shoppers and vendors alike.
FFMs guests will be required to wear a mask while onsite to prevent the spread of potential viruses to the foods and products for sale on the grounds.
The sidewalks around the Farmers Market are being marked with flowers and guests will be asked to “plant” themselves 6-feet apart while waiting to make purchases.
Bathrooms will be made available and disinfected regularly throughout the Farmers Market day.
Delicious take-out and prepared foods will be sold, but sit-down dining can’t be allowed for the time being.
Hand-washing stations will also be placed on the grounds for frequent hand washing while onsite.
We have had to change a lot about our Farmers Market, but we know we are all in this together and will do what it takes to safely support our farmers and feed our neighbors! We truly can’t wait to host you this coming Saturday 9AM – 2PM at 534 N. Main St., Frankenmuth.
