Where is the Frankenmuth Visitor Center?
We are located in the heart of Frankenmuth at 635 South Main Street, Frankenmuth, MI, 48734
We are open 361 days per year closing only for Christmas, New Year’s Day, Easter and Thanksgiving. Current hours are:

  • Monday thru Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm
  • Friday 8:00am to 8:00pm
  • Saturdays 10:00am to 8:00pm
  • Sundays 12:00pm to 5:00pm

When does the Glockenspiel chime?
9am, 12pm, 3pm and 6pm

When do the Christmas lights go up and come down?
Frankenmuth’s holiday lights begin to go up in early November. All of the Christmas decorations and lights must be working in time for our Holiday Celebration & Candlewalk, which is held the day after the American Thanksgiving. (4th Thursday in November) Most decorations are removed in early January, however, some remain in place until after the annual Zehnder’s Snowfest.

What time do the stores in Frankenmuth open/close?
Store hours vary based on the store and season. Many shops open at 10am and close around 6pm in the winter and spring. They often stay open until 8pm or 9pm from summer through Christmas. Why is Oktoberfest held in September?
The Munich, Germany Oktoberfest had its beginning as a wedding reception for Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Theresa. The wedding ceremony was held in September, but the party lasted for three weeks, ending in October. They ended up calling the annual celebration Oktoberfest. The Frankenmuth Oktoberfest has been sanctioned by the city of Munich, so we begin ours on the same weekend in September as Germany begins theirs, however, Germany’s runs for three weeks. 2010 will be the 200th anniversary of the Munich Oktoberfest. Frankenmuth’s began in 1990.

What is the population of Frankenmuth?
According to the 2000 census, the population of Frankenmuth is 4,900 within the city limits and 2,800 in the township.

What does Frankenmuth mean?
Franken depicts the province from which the settlers came and Muth means courage in German. The name Frankenmuth means Courage of the Franconians.

Do any Frankenmuth hotels accept pets?
The Drury Inn & Suites 989-652-2800 and the Frankenmuth Motel 989-652-6171 are the only hotels in Frankenmuth that accepts pets.

Do any Frankenmuth hotels have Jacuzzi rooms?
While many people ask this question, there is often confusion on what a Jacuzzi is and a tub with jets is not defined as a Jacuzzi. Many hotels offer tubs with jets so if that will work for you, be sure to clarify when you inquire with a hotel. There are 3 properties that have Jacuzzi rooms; the Bavarian Inn Lodge, The Springhill Suites by Marriott and the Holiday Inn Express.
